Tips:

  • Choose the right squash. For this recipe, butternut squash is the best choice. It has a sweet, nutty flavor and cooks up tender and creamy.
  • Roast the squash before mashing it. Roasting the squash brings out its natural sweetness and caramelizes the edges slightly. This gives the casserole a more complex flavor.
  • Use a good quality cheese. The cheese is one of the main ingredients in this casserole, so it's important to use a good quality cheese that you enjoy. A sharp cheddar cheese or a Gruyère cheese are both good choices.
  • Add some spices. Spices can help to enhance the flavor of the casserole. Try adding a teaspoon of garlic powder, onion powder, or paprika.
  • Don't overcook the casserole. The casserole should be cooked until it is just heated through. Overcooking will make the squash mushy and the casserole dry.

Conclusion:

Squash casserole is a delicious and comforting dish that is perfect for a fall or winter meal. It is easy to make and can be tailored to your own taste preferences. With a few simple tips, you can make a squash casserole that is sure to be a hit with your family and friends.
