STEAK SAN MARCO

This is a super easy, easy-on-the-budget meal. My mother made this for years, and it was always a family favorite. Great if you are pressed for time, and it tastes even better if you make it the day before and refrigerate it overnight. Serve with rice or egg noodles.

Time 1h40m

Yield 4-6 cups, 4 serving(s)

Number Of Ingredients 8

2 lbs chuck steaks, 1 inch thick, cut into serving pieces
1 (1 ounce) envelope onion soup mix (we use Lipton)
1 (28 ounce) can peeled Italian tomatoes
1 teaspoon oregano
2 tablespoons vegetable oil
2 tablespoons red wine vinegar
pepper
garlic powder

Steps:

  • In a large skillet, arrange meat; cover with onion soup mix and tomatoes (cut tomatoes into pieces).
  • Sprinkle with oregano, garlic powder, pepper, oil and vinegar.
  • Bring to a simmer; cover and cook 1 1/2 hours or until meat is tender.

Tips:

  • Choose the right cut of steak: For this recipe, a tender cut like filet mignon or strip steak is best.
  • Tenderize the steak: Use a meat mallet or the back of a heavy knife to tenderize the steak before cooking. This will help to break down the connective tissue and make the steak more tender.
  • Season the steak liberally: Steak San Marco is a flavorful dish, so don't be afraid to season the steak generously with salt, pepper, and garlic powder.
  • Cook the steak over high heat: This will help to create a nice crust on the outside of the steak while keeping the inside tender and juicy.
  • Don't overcook the steak: Steak San Marco is best when cooked to medium-rare or medium. Overcooking will make the steak tough and dry.
  • Let the steak rest before slicing: This will allow the juices to redistribute throughout the steak, making it more tender and flavorful.

Conclusion:

Steak San Marco is a delicious and easy-to-make dish that is perfect for a special occasion or a weeknight meal. With its tender steak, flavorful sauce, and crispy potatoes, this dish is sure to please everyone at the table.
