Tips:
- Choose the right asparagus. Look for asparagus that is bright green, firm, and has tightly closed tips. Avoid asparagus that is wilted, limp, or has brown or yellow spots.
- Trim the asparagus. Cut off the tough ends of the asparagus, about 1 inch from the bottom.
- Steam the asparagus. You can steam the asparagus in a steamer basket over a pot of boiling water, or you can use a microwave steamer. If you are using a microwave steamer, add 1/4 cup of water to the steamer and cook the asparagus on high power for 2-3 minutes, or until the asparagus is tender.
- Make the lemon butter sauce. While the asparagus is steaming, melt the butter in a small saucepan over medium heat. Add the lemon juice, zest, salt, and pepper and whisk to combine. Remove the saucepan from the heat.
- Serve the asparagus. Arrange the steamed asparagus on a serving platter and drizzle with the lemon butter sauce. Serve immediately.
Conclusion:
Steamed asparagus with lemon butter is a simple and delicious side dish that can be enjoyed year-round. This recipe is easy to make and can be tailored to your own taste preferences. For example, you can add a pinch of garlic powder or red pepper flakes to the lemon butter sauce for a little extra flavor. You can also serve the asparagus with a side of grated Parmesan cheese or crumbled bacon.
