  • Dissolve the stock cubes in 1 pint of hot water and pour into the baking dish.
  • Bake for 40 minutes or until the potatoes are tender.

Tips:

  • Use high-quality ingredients: The quality of your ingredients will directly impact the flavor of your stovies. Use fresh, locally-sourced vegetables and meats whenever possible.
  • Choose the right cut of meat: The best cuts of meat for stovies are those that are well-marbled, such as chuck steak or brisket. These cuts will become tender and flavorful as they cook.
  • Brown the meat and vegetables: Browning the meat and vegetables before adding them to the stew will help to develop their flavor and give the stew a rich, amber color.
  • Use a variety of vegetables: Stovies are a great way to use up leftover vegetables. Some common vegetables that are used in stovies include potatoes, carrots, onions, and celery.
  • Use a good quality stock: The stock that you use will also impact the flavor of your stovies. Use a homemade stock if you have time, or a good quality store-bought stock.
  • Cook the stovies slowly and gently: Stovies are a slow-cooked dish that should be cooked over low heat for at least 2 hours. This will allow the flavors to develop and the meat to become tender.
  • Serve the stovies with your favorite sides: Stovies are traditionally served with mashed potatoes, but they can also be served with other sides such as rice, pasta, or bread.

Conclusion:

Stovies are a hearty, flavorful, and comforting dish that is perfect for a cold winter day. With a few simple tips, you can make stovies that your whole family will love. So next time you're looking for a delicious and easy-to-make meal, give stovies a try!
