CHERRY-APPLESAUCE SALAD

Cherry-Applesauce Salad image

This recipe comes from an old church cookbook that I have been cooking out of for years. The dish is so easy to prepare, and everyone I've ever served it to has loved it. Be sure to use a good quality applesauce so the gelatin will get firm and set-up nicely. Cheaper applesauces have too much liquid in them for this recipe.

Provided by S. Merrill

Categories     Apple

Time 4h10m

Yield 6-8 serving(s)

Number Of Ingredients 3

1 (3 ounce) package cherry gelatin
2 cups good quality applesauce
1 cup carbonated lemon-lime beverage

Steps:

  • Heat applesauce in a covered saucepan, over medium heat, until boiling. (Using a lid will prohibit splattering and cut down on clean up.).
  • Remove from heat and stir in gelatin until dissolved. Add 7-up and stir to blend completely. Pour into a 5"x9" loaf pan and refrigerate until set.

Tips:

  • Choose the ripest strawberries you can find, as they will have the best flavor.
  • If you don't have fresh strawberries, you can use frozen strawberries that have been thawed.
  • Be sure to wash the strawberries thoroughly before using them.
  • If you want a sweeter salad, you can add some sugar or honey to taste.
  • For a more tart salad, you can add some lemon juice or vinegar.
  • You can also add other ingredients to your salad, such as nuts, seeds, or yogurt.

Conclusion:

Strawberry applesauce salad is a delicious and refreshing salad that is perfect for a summer picnic or potluck. It is also a great way to use up leftover strawberries. With its sweet and tangy flavor, this salad is sure to be a hit with everyone who tries it. So next time you have some extra strawberries, give this salad a try!
