12 pecans or walnut halves
24 pitted whole dates
2 tablespoons butter, softened
1/3 cup packed brown sugar
1 egg yolk
3/4 cup all-purpose flour
1/4 teaspoon baking powder
1/4 teaspoon baking soda
1/3 cup sour cream
BROWN BUTTER FROSTING:
2 tablespoons butter
3/4 cup confectioners' sugar
1/2 teaspoon vanilla extract
1-1/2 to 2 teaspoons milk

Steps:

  • Cut pecan or walnut halves lengthwise; stuff into dates and set aside. In a bowl, cream butter and brown sugar. Beat in egg yolk. Combine flour, baking powder and baking soda; add to creamed mixture alternately with sour cream. Stir in stuffed dates. , Drop by tablespoonfuls with one date per cookie, onto greased baking sheets. Bake at 375° for 7-9 minutes or until golden brown. Cool on wire racks. , In a saucepan, cook butter over medium heat until golden brown, about 5 minutes. Gradually stir in sugar, vanilla and milk. Frost cookies.

1 lb Pitted dates; (about 70)
70 Pecan halves (about 3 oz.)
1/4 c Shortening
3/4 c Brown sugar
1 Egg
1 1/4 c Flour
1/2 ts Baking powder
1/2 ts Soda
1/4 ts Salt
1/2 c Dairy sour cream
Frosting: see below
GOLDEN FROSTING:
1/2 cup margarine or butter
3 cups sifted powdered sugar
3/4 teaspoon vanilla
3 tablespoons water (about)

Steps:

  • Stuff dates with nut halves. Thoroughly cream shortening and sugar. Beat in egg. Sift dry ingredients together. Add alternately with sour cream to creamed mixture. Stir in dates, gently. Drop onto greased cookie sheets (1 date per cookie). Bake at 400 deg. for 8-10 minutes. Top with Golden Frosting. Lightly brown butter. Remove from heat and gradually beat in sugar and vanilla. Slowly add water until of spreading consistency. Makes about 70 cookies.
