Time 15m

Yield 1 24 ounce ball

Number Of Ingredients 10

8 ounces sharp cheddar cheese, shredded (I used a shredded cheddar or mozzarella mix)
8 ounces swiss cheese, shredded
1 (8 ounce) package cream cheese
1/3 cup sour cream
2 teaspoons Worcestershire sauce
1/2 teaspoon paprika
1/2 teaspoon garlic salt
1/4 teaspoon black pepper
1/3 cup finely chopped nuts (walnuts or pecans are good, I haven't tried toasted but I bet that would be good)
1/4 cup fresh chives, chopped (optional- you may also use chopped fresh parsley, or fresh thyme)

Steps:

  • Place cheddar, Swiss, and cream cheese, sour cream, Worcestershire sauce, paprika, black pepper, and garlic salt in a medium bowl.
  • Place in a food processor and pulse until well blended.
  • In bowl, place nuts and chives, if using. Stir to mix.
  • Shape mixture into a ball, roll in the chopped nuts and chives(if using).
  • Wrap in waxed paper or plastic wrap and refrigerate until serving time.
  • Serve with raw vegetables or crackers.

Tips:

  • Use high-quality ingredients. The better the ingredients, the better the swiss cheese balls will be. Use fresh herbs, freshly grated cheese, and high-quality bread crumbs.
  • Make sure the cheese is cold. This will help the cheese balls hold their shape better. If the cheese is too warm, it will be more difficult to work with and the cheese balls may fall apart.
  • Use a light touch when mixing the ingredients. Over-mixing will make the cheese balls tough. Mix the ingredients just until they are combined.
  • Chill the cheese balls before frying. This will help them hold their shape better. Chill the cheese balls for at least 30 minutes before frying.
  • Fry the cheese balls until they are golden brown. This will ensure that they are cooked through and have a crispy coating.
  • Serve the cheese balls immediately. They are best when served hot and fresh.

Conclusion:

Swiss cheese balls are a delicious and easy-to-make appetizer that is perfect for any occasion. They are also a great way to use up leftover cheese. With just a few simple ingredients, you can make a batch of swiss cheese balls that will be sure to please everyone.
