SWISS CHARD, GARLIC, AND GRUYERE PIZZA

Swiss Chard, Garlic, and Gruyere Pizza image

Pizza from scratch need not be solely a weekend pursuit. Start the dough in the morning, and let it slowly rise in the fridge over the course of the day. Our no-sauce version brings out the earthiness of chard.

LITTLE NERO'S CHEESE PIZZA

Little Nero's Cheese Pizza image

For when Buzz steals the last slice, make your own! Serve with a glass of milk, Kevin McAllister-style. The smoky cheese blend provides a distinct flavor reminiscent of a wood-fired pie from a standard in-home oven and the pre-heated cooking surface doubles down on the difficult-to-attain-at-home crusty crunch.

Time 30m

Yield 10 serving(s)

Number Of Ingredients 7

10 refrigerated biscuits, regular size (1 package)
1 tablespoon olive oil
1 lb Italian sausage, remove meat from casings (use spicy if you like heat)
1 cup sweet onion, diced
2 tablespoons fresh basil (chopped or sliced)
1/2-1 cup spaghetti sauce or 1/2-1 cup pizza sauce
1 cup swiss cheese, grated

Steps:

  • On 2 baking sheets covered with either parchment paper or a silicone non-stick baking mat, place 5 biscuits on each. With your fingers, press biscuits down and stretch them until they are about 6 inches wide. They will be quite thin. Bake crusts for the same time that the package says to cook the biscuits or until lightly browned.
  • While the crusts are baking, heat olive oil in a frying pan over medium heat. Add sausage meat and break up as you stir, for about 3 minutes. Add onion and sauté for 5 more minutes. Turn off heat when meat is cooked and onions are soft. Stir in basil.
  • When pizza crusts are done, add a spoonful of sauce to the top of each one, using as much or as little as you like. Divide sausage mixture between the crusts. Top with grated cheese.
  • Bake for 8 to 10 more minutes or until cheese is melted. Make sure that crusts do not burn.
  • Cut and serve.

Tips:

  • For a perfectly crispy crust, use a pizza stone or baking sheet preheated to a high temperature.
  • Use high-quality ingredients, especially the cheese. Fresh, shredded mozzarella and Parmesan will give you the best results.
  • Don't overload the pizza with toppings. Too many toppings will make the pizza soggy.
  • Bake the pizza until the crust is golden brown and the cheese is melted and bubbly.
  • Let the pizza cool for a few minutes before slicing and serving.

Swiss cheese pizza is a classic dish that is easy to make and loved by people of all ages. With a few simple tips, you can make a delicious Swiss cheese pizza at home that rivals any pizzeria. So next time you're craving pizza, give one of these recipes a try. You won't be disappointed!
