I picked this recipe up tailgating with friends at one of the many Notre Dame games I've been to (thanks Adam and Alex, GO ND!!). It couldn't be easier. While waiting for the sauce to cook down, throw the football with your friends and have a few beers!!

Tips:

  • Choose the Right Sausages: Opt for high-quality red hots that are plump and juicy. Look for brands that are made with premium cuts of meat and natural casings.
  • Grill or Pan-Fry: You can cook red hots on a grill or in a pan. If grilling, preheat the grill to medium heat and cook the sausages for 8-10 minutes, turning occasionally. If pan-frying, heat a large skillet over medium heat and cook the sausages for 5-7 minutes per side.
  • Don't Overcook: Red hots are best when cooked through but not overcooked. Overcooked sausages will become tough and dry.
  • Use Good Quality Buns: The bun is an important part of the red hot experience. Choose soft, fluffy buns that can hold up to the juicy sausage.
  • Load Up on Toppings: Red hots are a blank canvas for toppings. Get creative and load them up with your favorites, such as sauerkraut, onions, relish, mustard, and ketchup.

Conclusion:

Red hots are a classic American ballpark food that can be enjoyed at home with a few simple ingredients. By following these tips, you can make the best red hots that will be a hit at your next tailgate or party. So fire up the grill or heat up the pan, and get ready to enjoy some delicious red hots!
