SWEET VERMOUTH SLUSH

Sweet Vermouth Slush image

Spoon and serve this vermouth-orange slush as is for a lower-A.B.V. drink or top each portion, affogato-style, with a drinker's choice floater of hard spirit. Tequila, gin, brandy, bourbon or mezcal all work well. The key to prolonging the cocktail's icy texture is to make sure every element is chilled: Pop whatever liquors you plan to pour over top into the fridge when you put the slush in the freezer. This simple, plan-ahead move will keep your final drink from melting too fast.

Time 8h5m

Yield 6 servings

Number Of Ingredients 6

10 ounces fresh orange juice
8 ounces sweet vermouth
4 ounces simple syrup (1:1 granulated sugar and water)
2 ounces orange liqueur
2 ounces filtered water
4 1/2 to 6 ounces hard liquor, such as tequila, gin, mezcal or bourbon

Steps:

  • In a shallow 9-by-9-inch baking pan, combine the orange juice, vermouth, simple syrup, orange liqueur and filtered water. Whisk to combine, then place in the freezer, uncovered, for 3 hours.
  • After 3 hours, use a fork to scrape the frozen edges of the mixture toward the center, then continue freezing until the mixture is nearly set, at least 5 hours or overnight.
  • Once frozen, use a fork to scrape into a fine, granitalike texture. If you are not serving immediately, transfer the vermouth slush to a covered container and freeze until ready to use.
  • To serve, add 3/4 cup/6 ounces of the slush to a lowball glass and top with 3/4 to 1 ounce of your preferred liquor; serve immediately.

Old family favorite (for grownups only) every holiday. Would be fabulous in the summertime too. A very sweet drink...not boozy-tasting. Best if frozen overnight - cook time represents time in the freezer. Makes alot.

Number Of Ingredients 6

2 cups sugar
2 cups water
7 cups water
1 (12 ounce) can frozen orange juice
1 (12 ounce) can frozen lemonade

Steps:

  • Prepare in large tuperware type container with lid that will fit in your freezer.
  • Stir well, put the lid on and freeze mixture (overnight is best).
  • You will need to give it a stir every few hours.
  • When slushy, serve in a tall glass with half Squirt/Fresca (grapefruit flavored pop) or 7up/Sprite.
  • Ratio 1/2 slush and 1/2 pop.
  • Garnish with a cherry.
  • NOTE: I have never made this with RUM.
  • I have always made it with Brandy.

Tips:

  • Use fresh ingredients: Fresh fruits and juices will give your tequila slush a more vibrant flavor and aroma.
  • Choose a good quality tequila: The quality of the tequila you use will have a big impact on the final flavor of your slush. Look for a tequila that is 100% blue agave and has a smooth, clean taste.
  • Don't over-blend the slush: Over-blending will make the slush too icy. Blend the slush just until it is smooth and slushy.
  • Serve the slush immediately: Tequila slush is best enjoyed immediately after it is made. The slush will start to melt as it sits, so don't make it too far in advance.
  • Garnish the slush with your favorite toppings: You can garnish the slush with a variety of toppings, such as fresh fruit, lime wedges, or a sprinkle of salt.

Conclusion:

Tequila slush is a refreshing and delicious way to enjoy tequila. It is perfect for parties, BBQs, or just a hot summer day. With a few simple ingredients and a blender, you can easily make a delicious tequila slush at home. So next time you're looking for a refreshing cocktail, give tequila slush a try.
