Yield about 2 1/2 cups

Number Of Ingredients 12

1 tablespoon olive oil
1 large Vidalia onion, very thinly sliced
1/4 cup water
One 8-ounce package cream cheese, at room temperature
1/2 cup mayonnaise
1/4 cup sour cream
1 teaspoon Worcestershire sauce
1/2 teaspoon garlic salt
1/2 teaspoon onion powder
1/2 teaspoon freshly ground black pepper
1 scallion, green part only, thinly sliced
Chips, for serving

Steps:

  • Heat the olive oil in a medium skillet over medium-high heat. Add the onions and saute until beginning to brown, 5 to 7 minutes. Stir in the water and scrape up any brown bits from the bottom of the pan. Turn the heat to low and cook until the onions are golden brown, 30 to 35 minutes, stirring occasionally. If the pan ever looks too dry, add a tablespoon of water. Let cool completely.
  • Combine the cream cheese, mayonnaise, sour cream, Worcestershire, garlic salt, onion powder and pepper in a medium bowl. Beat until smooth with an electric mixer. Stir in the reserved onions and the scallions. Chill until serving time. Serve with chips.

VIDALIA® ONION DIP

Vidalia® Onion Dip image

A cheesy dip for the onion lover in all of us. I serve it with crackers but you can also use breadsticks. Be careful about over-baking as the cheese will harden and be difficult to dip crackers in.

  • Caramelize the onions: This step adds a rich, sweet flavor to the dip. Cook the onions slowly over low heat until they are golden brown and caramelized.
  • Use a food processor: This is the easiest way to achieve a smooth and creamy dip. Simply add all of the ingredients to the food processor and blend until smooth.
  • Chill the dip before serving: This allows the flavors to meld and the dip to thicken up. Chill the dip for at least 30 minutes before serving.
