I often serve this pork with fried rice and Chinese-style vegetables. It also makes a great appetizer by itself. Folks have fun dipping the nuggets into the two homemade sauces.

Tips:

  • Select the Right Cut of Pork: Choose a pork shoulder or pork butt roast for this recipe. These cuts have a good amount of fat, which will help keep the pork moist and flavorful during cooking.
  • Use a Dutch Oven or Slow Cooker: Both a Dutch oven and a slow cooker are great options for cooking this pork roast. A Dutch oven will give you a more crispy crust, while a slow cooker will result in a more tender and fall-apart pork.
  • Brown the Pork Before Cooking: Browning the pork before cooking helps to develop flavor and color. You can do this in a Dutch oven over medium-high heat or in a large skillet.
  • Add Plenty of Aromatics: Aromatics like garlic, onion, and ginger add a lot of flavor to this dish. Don't be afraid to use a generous amount.
  • Use a Good Quality Hoisin Sauce: Hoisin sauce is a key ingredient in this recipe. Make sure to use a good quality hoisin sauce that is thick and flavorful.
  • Serve with Rice or Noodles: This pork roast is traditionally served with rice or noodles. You can also serve it with vegetables or a salad.

Conclusion:

This Mandarin pork roast is a delicious and easy-to-make dish that is perfect for a weeknight meal or a special occasion. The pork is tender and flavorful, and the sauce is tangy and sweet. Serve it with rice or noodles, and you have a complete meal that everyone will love.
