I created this sandwich one weekend when I couldn't decide whether to have turkey, roast beef, or ham. This sandwich has all three! You can substitute Italian roast beef for the regular roast beef to take this sandwich to another level. Most supermarket delis carry the Italian, you just have to ask. Also, the order of the ingredients is important for all of the tastes to blend properly.

THE MUNROE MELT (SANDWICH)

I found this recipe on a website called Choice Cooking Recipes. I have never found a prepared dijon-mayo blend, so I just use 1/2 tablespoon dijon mustard and 1/2 tablespoon mayonnaise, and blend the two conditments together with a knife. Most in my family like this sandwich with a few thin slices of red onion added, but that's our own addition (it's not a part of the original recipe), so I've listed that as an optional ingredient.

Tips:

  • Use high-quality ingredients: The better the ingredients, the better the sandwich will be. Look for fresh, ripe vegetables, flavorful cheese, and high-quality deli meat.
  • Toast the bread: Toasting the bread will help it to hold up better to the sandwich fillings and also add a bit of extra flavor.
  • Spread a thin layer of butter or mayonnaise on the bread: This will help to keep the bread from getting soggy.
  • Layer the fillings evenly: Don't pile all of the fillings on one side of the sandwich. Spread them out evenly so that each bite is full of flavor.
  • Top the sandwich with a slice of cheese: The cheese will help to hold the sandwich together and also add a delicious melted layer.
  • Grill or press the sandwich: This will help to melt the cheese and toast the bread further. You can use a panini press, a grill, or even a hot skillet.
  • Serve the sandwich immediately: Grilled sandwiches are best served hot and fresh. Enjoy!
