Time 1h

Yield 6 serving(s)

Number Of Ingredients 10

6 large potatoes, sliced 1/4 inch thick
2 medium onions, chopped
1/3 cup grated parmesan cheese
1 cup shredded sharp cheddar cheese, divided
1 cup shredded mozzarella cheese, divided
1 lb sliced bacon, cooked and crumbled
1/4 cup butter or 1/4 cup margarine, cubed
1 tablespoon dried chives
1 -2 teaspoon seasoning salt
1/2 teaspoon pepper

Steps:

  • Divided the potatoes and onions evenly between two sheets of heavy-duty foil (approximately 18 inches square), that have been sprayed with nonstick cooking spray.
  • In a bowl, add the parmesan cheese, 3/4 cup each of the cheddar and mozzarella cheese; stir to combine.
  • Sprinkle the cheese mixture over the potatoes.
  • Sprinkle with bacon, butter cubes, chives, seasoned salt and pepper.
  • Fold the ends of the foil to make a packet (I bring 2 opposite ends of the foil over the potatoes and fold or roll downward, then I roll the unsealed ends inward toward the filling and give them a good press to seal).
  • Grill, covered, over medium heat for 35-40 minutes or until potatoes are tender.
  • Remove from the grill, open carefully, and sprinkle with remaining cheese.

Tips:

  • Use high-quality bread: Artisan or sourdough bread works well for grilled cheese sandwiches. It should be sturdy enough to hold the melted cheese without getting soggy.
  • Use a variety of cheeses: A combination of cheeses with different melting properties creates a more flavorful and gooey sandwich. Try using a hard cheese like cheddar, a soft cheese like mozzarella, and a flavorful cheese like blue cheese or Gruyère.
  • Add mix-ins for extra flavor: Sliced ham, bacon, caramelized onions, or roasted vegetables can add extra flavor and texture to your grilled cheese sandwich.
  • Butter your bread: Buttering the bread before grilling helps it to brown evenly and adds a crispy crust.
  • Cook your sandwich on low heat: This allows the cheese to melt slowly and evenly without burning the bread.
  • Cover your sandwich while cooking: This helps the cheese to melt more quickly and evenly.
  • Serve your sandwich immediately: Grilled cheese sandwiches are best when served hot and gooey.

Conclusion:

The three-cheese grilled cheese sandwich is a classic comfort food that is easy to make and loved by people of all ages. With a few simple ingredients and a few minutes of your time, you can create a delicious and satisfying meal. So next time you're looking for a quick and easy lunch or dinner, give the three-cheese grilled cheese sandwich a try. You won't be disappointed!
