Tips:
- For a classic toffee flavor, use dark brown sugar. For a lighter, more buttery flavor, use light brown sugar.
- Do not overmix the crust ingredients. Overmixing will make the crust tough.
- Press the crust firmly into the pie plate. This will help prevent the crust from shrinking.
- Bake the crust for 10-12 minutes, or until it is golden brown.
- Let the crust cool completely before filling it.
- For the filling, use a heavy saucepan. This will help prevent the sugar from burning.
- Stir the sugar mixture constantly. This will help prevent the sugar from crystallizing.
- Once the sugar mixture has reached the desired color, remove it from the heat and stir in the butter.
- Let the toffee mixture cool slightly before pouring it into the pie crust.
- For the topping, use a combination of chopped nuts and chocolate chips. You can also use other toppings, such as crushed candy bars or pretzels.
- Bake the pie for 20-25 minutes, or until the topping is golden brown.
- Let the pie cool completely before serving.
