THE BEST SWEET POTATO CASSEROLE

The Best Sweet Potato Casserole image

We opted for a nutty crumb topping over marshmallows to create a pleasantly crunchy contrast to the creamy and soft mashed sweet potatoes. The filling gets a pumpkin pie-like treatment, with brown sugar and vanilla for a deep caramel flavor and butter and eggs for richness. This recipe is bound to become a holiday staple.

Tips:

  • Choose the right sweet potatoes: Look for sweet potatoes that are firm and have smooth skin. Avoid any that are bruised or have blemishes.
  • Cook the sweet potatoes properly: You can cook the sweet potatoes in a variety of ways, but the most common method is to bake them. To bake sweet potatoes, preheat your oven to 400°F (200°C) and pierce the potatoes with a fork. Bake for 45 minutes to 1 hour, or until the potatoes are tender when pierced with a knife.
  • Use fresh ingredients: The fresher the ingredients, the better your sweet potato casserole will taste. If possible, use fresh sweet potatoes, butter, milk, and eggs.
  • Don't overcook the casserole: The casserole should be cooked until it is just set in the center. If you overcook it, the casserole will become dry and crumbly.
  • Let the casserole cool slightly before serving: This will allow the flavors to meld together and the casserole to firm up slightly.

Conclusion:

Sweet potato casserole is a classic Southern dish that is perfect for any occasion. It is easy to make and can be tailored to your own taste. Whether you like it sweet, savory, or somewhere in between, there is a sweet potato casserole recipe out there for you.
