EASY CREAMY NO BAKE TUNA NOODLE CASSEROLE

Easy Creamy No Bake Tuna Noodle Casserole image

Tuna casserole was the first recipe I learned, but I didn't like the heavyness of 'cream of' soups. So I came up with this stove top version, with a milk based sauce its much lighter. Still creamy, delicious and full of flavor. Once you try it you won't go back.

OH JOYFUL TUNA NOODLE BAKE

Oh Joyful Tuna Noodle Bake image

My sister-in-law gave me this recipe when I first got married, I used it a lot back then. Now my toddler son enjoys this. To add some veggies, I add 1 cup of frozen peas and carrots to the mix. To eliminate the sodium content, I have in the past reduced the amount of salt or eliminated the Worcestershire sauce altogether.

Time 55m

Yield 4-6 serving(s)

Number Of Ingredients 9

1 (8 ounce) package wide egg noodles
1 (6 1/2 ounce) can tuna, drained
1 (10 1/2 ounce) can cream of mushroom soup
1 cup mayonnaise
2 teaspoons seasoning salt
1 teaspoon Worcestershire sauce
1/2 teaspoon salt
1/4 teaspoon pepper
shredded cheese

Steps:

  • Preheat oven to 350°F.
  • Cook noodles according to package direction.
  • Drain and set aside.
  • Drain tuna and set aside.
  • In large bowl, combine the rest of the ingredients except the cheese.
  • Fold in tuna and noodles.
  • Mix together and pour into a baking dish.
  • Top with shredded cheese.
  • Bake for 30-40 minutes covered.

Tips:

  • Choose the Right Tuna: Opt for high-quality tuna packed in water or olive oil. Avoid tuna packed in brine, as it can make the casserole too salty.
  • Use a Variety of Noodles: Feel free to mix and match different types of noodles, such as macaroni, penne, or egg noodles, to add texture and flavor to the casserole.
  • Don't Overcook the Noodles: Cook the noodles according to the package instructions, but be careful not to overcook them. Al dente noodles will hold their shape better in the casserole.
  • Use a Creamy Sauce: A creamy sauce made with milk, cream, or cheese adds richness and flavor to the casserole. You can also use a store-bought Alfredo sauce or a simple white sauce.
  • Add Vegetables: Vegetables like peas, carrots, celery, and onions add color, texture, and nutrients to the casserole. You can also use frozen vegetables for convenience.
  • Season Generously: Don't be afraid to season the casserole well with salt, pepper, and other herbs and spices. This will enhance the flavors of all the ingredients.
  • Top with Cheese: A layer of cheese on top of the casserole adds a golden-brown, crispy crust. You can use any type of cheese you like, such as cheddar, mozzarella, or Parmesan.
