SWEET-AND-SOUR TURKEY

Sweet-and-Sour Turkey image

For a wonderful balance of tastes and textures, cubed turkey breasts are mixed with snow peas, pineapple, green bell pepper, and carrots in this flavorful stir-fry recipe.

Provided by Martha Stewart

Categories     Food & Cooking     Ingredients     Meat & Poultry     Turkey Recipes

Number Of Ingredients 12

1 large egg
6 tablespoons cornstarch
6 ounces uncooked turkey breast, cut into 1-inch cubes (about 1 cup)
1/4 cup rice-wine vinegar
1/4 cup sugar
1 tablespoon soy sauce
1 cup homemade or low-sodium canned chicken stock
1 tablespoon canola oil
1 carrot, sliced into thin diagonal rounds
1/2 green bell pepper, ribs and seeds removed, cut into 1-inch pieces
3 ounces snow peas, stem ends trimmed
1/4 pineapple, peeled, cored, and cut into 1-inch pieces

Steps:

  • In a bowl, whisk together egg and 4 tablespoons cornstarch. Add turkey; set aside. In another bowl, whisk together vinegar, sugar, soy sauce, stock, and remaining 2 tablespoons cornstarch.
  • Heat a medium nonstick skillet over medium heat. Add oil. Using a slotted spoon, transfer coated turkey to hot pan. Cook, tossing occasionally, until meat is golden brown on all sides, 10 to 12 minutes. Transfer turkey to a plate; set aside.
  • Add carrot and 3/4 cup water to pan. Cook, stirring, until water has evaporated and carrot pieces are soft, 8 to 10 minutes. Pour in vinegar mixture; bring to a simmer, stirring. Add bell pepper; cook, stirring, until sauce is thick and shiny, about 2 minutes. Stir in peas, pineapple, and turkey. Serve warm.

Tips:

  • Use fresh ingredients: The fresher your ingredients, the better your sweet and sour turkey hot dogs will taste. This is especially important for the vegetables, which should be crisp and colorful.
  • Don't overcook the turkey hot dogs: Turkey hot dogs are very easy to overcook, so be careful not to cook them for too long. Otherwise, they will become tough and dry.
  • Make sure the sauce is thick enough: The sauce should be thick enough to coat the turkey hot dogs and vegetables without being too runny. If the sauce is too thin, it will not adhere to the food and will make the dish look unappetizing.
  • Serve the dish immediately: Sweet and sour turkey hot dogs are best served immediately after they are made. This is because the vegetables will start to wilt and the sauce will start to thicken as the dish sits.

Conclusion:

Sweet and sour turkey hot dogs are a delicious and easy-to-make dish that is perfect for a quick and easy meal. The combination of sweet and sour flavors is sure to please everyone at your table. So next time you're looking for a new and exciting way to enjoy turkey hot dogs, give this recipe a try. You won't be disappointed!
