Tips:

  • Choose the right turnips: Look for small, young turnips with smooth, unblemished skin. Avoid turnips that are large, woody, or have blemishes.
  • Peel the turnips thinly: Use a sharp knife or vegetable peeler to remove the thin layer of skin from the turnips. This will help the turnips cook evenly.
  • Use fresh breadcrumbs: Fresh breadcrumbs will give the turnip puffs a lighter, more delicate texture. If you don't have fresh breadcrumbs, you can make your own by toasting bread cubes in the oven or in a toaster oven.
  • Don't overmix the batter: Overmixing the batter will make the turnip puffs tough. Mix just until the ingredients are combined.
  • Fry the turnip puffs in hot oil: The oil should be hot enough so that the turnip puffs sizzle when they are added to the pan. This will help them cook evenly and prevent them from becoming greasy.
  • Drain the turnip puffs on paper towels: After frying, drain the turnip puffs on paper towels to remove any excess oil.

Conclusion:

Turnip puffs are a delicious and versatile side dish that can be served with a variety of meals. They are easy to make and can be tailored to your own taste preferences. So next time you're looking for a new side dish, give turnip puffs a try!
