Time 35m

Yield 6 serving(s)

Number Of Ingredients 11

1 cup rough granulated textured vegetable protein
1/3 cup diced bell pepper
1/3 cup diced onion
1 tablespoon minced garlic
2 tablespoons olive oil
1 cup barbecue sauce, of choice (I like Enrico's)
1/3 cup roasted and salted cashew pieces
yellow mustard
hot sauce
salt and pepper, as desired
6 split hamburger buns

Steps:

  • Put oil and vegetables into 2 quart saucepan.
  • Saute until veggies begin to wilt and add the TVP, and enough water to prevent sticking.
  • Stir and add water until TVP begins to swell, and add the BBQ sauce.
  • Stir often and add more water as needed.
  • Taste and add mustard, hot sauce, and pepper as you choose.
  • When satisfied with basic flavor, add the cashews.
  • Do not salt until you taste again.
  • Serve on buns.

Tips:

  • Use a variety of vegetables. This will add flavor, texture, and nutrients to your dish. Some good choices include bell peppers, onions, zucchini, carrots, and mushrooms.
  • Don't be afraid to experiment with different spices and sauces. TVP is a blank canvas, so you can really let your creativity shine through. Some popular options include barbecue sauce, teriyaki sauce, and curry powder.
  • Cook TVP until it is tender but not mushy. The ideal texture is slightly chewy. Overcooking will make TVP tough and rubbery.
  • Serve TVP with your favorite sides. Some good options include rice, pasta, potatoes, or salad.

Conclusion:

TVP is a versatile and affordable meat alternative that can be used in a variety of dishes. It is a good source of protein, fiber, and iron. With a little creativity, you can easily create delicious and satisfying meals with TVP.
