Tips:

  • Use room temperature ingredients: This helps the ingredients to blend together more easily and results in a smoother batter.
  • Measure your ingredients carefully: Using the wrong amount of ingredients can throw off the balance of the recipe and result in a dry or dense cake.
  • Don't overmix the batter: Overmixing can develop the gluten in the flour and result in a tough cake. Mix the batter just until the ingredients are combined.
  • Use fresh baking powder and baking soda: Old baking powder and baking soda can lose their potency and result in a flat cake.
  • Bake the cake in a preheated oven: This helps to ensure that the cake bakes evenly.
  • Don't overbake the cake: Overbaking can dry out the cake and make it crumbly.
  • Let the cake cool completely before frosting it: This helps to prevent the frosting from melting.
