Categories     Punch Beverage

Time 30m

Yield 6 cups

Number Of Ingredients 6

4 cups cold water
1 cup caster sugar
2 cinnamon sticks
1 cup rum
6 apples, cored, cut into wedges, pink lady apples are best
1/2 cup fresh mint leaves

Steps:

  • Combine water, sugar and cinnamon sticks in large pot.
  • Stir over low heat for 5 minutes till sugar dissolves.
  • Increase heat, bring to the boil, simmer uncovered 5 minutes.
  • Stir in rum, simmer another 5 minutes.
  • Remove from heat and cool.
  • Meanwhile use a juice extractor to juice apples - or sub apple juice.
  • Add apple juice and mint leaves, stir to combine.
  • Serve warm.

Tips:

  • Choose the right apples: Granny Smith, Honeycrisp, and Braeburn are all good choices for this punch. They are tart and flavorful, and they hold their shape well when cooked.
  • Use fresh citrus: Oranges, lemons, and limes all add a bright, citrusy flavor to this punch. Be sure to use fresh citrus, as bottled juice will not have the same flavor.
  • Don't overcook the apples: The apples should be tender but still retain their shape. If you overcook them, they will become mushy.
  • Let the punch cool completely: This will allow the flavors to meld and develop. You can serve the punch warm or chilled.
  • Garnish with fresh herbs or spices: A sprig of rosemary, a cinnamon stick, or a few cloves will add a festive touch to your punch.

Conclusion:

Warm apple-citrus punch is a delicious and festive drink that is perfect for any occasion. It is easy to make and can be tailored to your own taste. Whether you like it tart, sweet, or somewhere in between, this punch is sure to please everyone. So next time you are looking for a warm and comforting drink, give warm apple-citrus punch a try. You won't be disappointed!
