Tips:
- Choose fresh mussels: Look for mussels that are tightly closed and have no cracks or damage to their shells.
- Scrub the mussels thoroughly: Use a stiff brush to scrub off any dirt or debris from the shells.
- Remove the beards: Grasp the beard with a pair of pliers and pull it out.
- Steam the mussels: Steaming is a quick and easy way to cook mussels. Add a little bit of white wine, garlic, and shallots to the steaming liquid for extra flavor.
- Don't overcook the mussels: Mussels only take a few minutes to cook. Overcooking will make them tough and rubbery.
- Serve immediately: Mussels are best served immediately after cooking.
