Tips:

  • Use fresh ingredients: Fresh vegetables, herbs, and spices will give your soup the best flavor. If you can't find fresh ingredients, frozen or canned vegetables can be used in a pinch.
  • Don't overcook your vegetables: Overcooked vegetables will become mushy and lose their flavor. Cook them just until they are tender-crisp.
  • Use a variety of spices: Mexican cuisine is known for its bold flavors. Don't be afraid to experiment with different spices, such as chili powder, cumin, paprika, and oregano.
  • Add some heat: If you like spicy food, add a chopped jalapeño or serrano pepper to your soup. You can also add a pinch of cayenne pepper or red pepper flakes.
  • Serve with your favorite toppings: Mexican soup is often served with toppings such as sour cream, guacamole, salsa, and shredded cheese. You can also add cornbread or tortilla chips.
