Provided by Martha Stewart

Categories     Food & Cooking     Drink Recipes     Cocktail Recipes

Number Of Ingredients 8

1 small lemon wedge
Turbinado sugar, for rimming glass
1/4 cup bourbon, preferably Maker's Mark
1/4 cup freshly squeezed orange juice
3 tablespoons freshly squeezed lemon juice
1 teaspoon granulated sugar, preferably organic
1 cup ice cubes
Oven-Dried Orange Slices

Steps:

  • Rub the lemon wedge around the rim of a 12-ounce rocks glass. Place turbinado sugar in a shallow dish. Dip the rim of the glass in the sugar to coat; set aside.

Tips:

  • Use fresh lemon juice for the best flavor. You'll need about 1 1/2 lemons for 1 ounce of juice.
  • If you don't have simple syrup, you can make your own by dissolving 1 cup of sugar in 1 cup of boiling water. Let it cool completely before using.
  • You can use any type of whiskey you like for this recipe, but a bourbon or rye whiskey is traditional.
  • If you want a sweeter drink, add more simple syrup to taste.
  • If you want a tarter drink, add more lemon juice to taste.
  • Garnish your whiskey sour with a lemon twist or cherry for a classic look.
  • Serve your whiskey sour immediately, or it will start to lose its fizz.
