Time 3h50m

Yield 12

Number Of Ingredients 6

1 ¾ cups warm water
2 tablespoons honey
¾ teaspoon active dry yeast
3 ½ cups whole wheat flour, or more as needed, divided
1 tablespoon olive oil
1 teaspoon sea salt

Steps:

  • Mix the warm water, honey, and yeast in a stand-mixer bowl until mixture becomes foamy, about 5 minutes.
  • Add half the whole wheat flour, olive oil, and salt to the mixture. Mix with a spatula or wooden spoon until incorporated. Let sit for 1 to 2 minutes.
  • Mix with a dough hook attachment on low speed, slowly adding the remaining whole wheat flour, increasing the speed to high. Mix on high until the batter is combined and not sticking to the sides of the bowl, about 7 minutes. Cover the bowl with a towel and let rest for 15 minutes.
  • Meanwhile, prepare a 9x5-inch loaf pan with parchment paper. Flour a surface to work the dough.
  • Place the dough onto the floured work surface and shape into a loaf. Use more flour if necessary. Place into the prepared loaf pan.
  • Let shaped dough sit in a warm place until it has risen over the top of the pan, about 1 hour.
  • Meanwhile, preheat the oven to 350 degrees F (175 degrees C).
  • Bake in the preheated oven until top of the loaf sounds hollow when tapped, about 35 minutes. Remove from the oven and let cool for 15 to 20 minutes before removing from the pan and transferring to a wire rack. Let cool an additional hour before slicing; otherwise it will feel doughy.

BEST WHITE BREAD (ABM)

Best White Bread (Abm) image

The base for this recipe was originally from Allrecipes but I've changed the recipe to suit my breadmaker and taste. When I made my first loaf of this I couldn't believe I had made something that looked and tasted like a commercially produced loaf. NOTE: My ABM is older and takes 2 1/2 hours to do a dough cycle. The times include rising time also.

Categories     Yeast Breads

Time 4h20m

Yield 1 medium loaf

Number Of Ingredients 6

2 teaspoons yeast (bread machine yeast)
3 1/4 cups flour
2 1/2 teaspoons gluten flour
1 1/3 teaspoons salt
1 1/3 tablespoons sugar
1 1/3 cups water (luke warm)

Steps:

  • Place the ingredients into your ABM in the order specified for your machine. Set it on the dough cycle.
  • When the dough cycle has beeped, LEAVE the dough in the machine for another 30 minutes. It will continue to rise again.
  • Preheat your oven to 190°C Grease a 9x5x3 loaf pan with butter.
  • Tip out your dough onto a lightly floured work area and roll into a long rectangle, making sure the width is no wider than 9 inches and about 1/2 inch thick. It doesn't matter about the length. You will hear all the air bubbles popping as you roll.
  • Once the air bubbles are gone, roll up, starting from one of the short ends. You may want to moisten the end of the dough to help seal it together.
  • Place roll of dough, seam side down, tucking ends under, in your loaf pan.
  • Leave to rise until doubled in size, approximately 30-40mins. Brush with melted butter.
  • Bake 190C for 30 minutes or until the loaf sounds hollow when tapped with the handle of a knife.
  • While loaf is hot brush with melted butter.
  • Remove loaf from pan onto a cooling rack.

Tips:

  • Make sure all ingredients are at room temperature before starting. This will help the yeast activate properly and produce a consistent dough.
  • Use a good quality bread machine. A higher quality machine will produce a better loaf of bread.
  • Follow the recipe carefully. Bread machines can be finicky, so it is important to follow the recipe exactly.
  • Use the correct type of flour. White whole wheat flour is a good choice for bread machines because it is a softer wheat that produces a lighter loaf of bread.
  • Don't overload the bread machine. Too much dough can cause the machine to malfunction.
  • Let the bread cool completely before slicing. This will help the bread maintain its shape and texture.
  • Store the bread in an airtight container at room temperature for up to 3 days. You can also freeze the bread for up to 2 months.

Conclusion:

With these tips in mind, you can make a delicious and healthy loaf of white whole wheat bread in your bread machine. This bread is perfect for sandwiches, toast, or just enjoying on its own. So next time you're in the mood for some fresh, homemade bread, give this recipe a try!
