12 ounces (1 1/2 cups) chocolate chips (divided)

2 eggs, beaten

1 cup walnuts, chopped
1/4 cup dates, finely minced
Finishing Salt

Steps:

  • LAYER ONE: Combine the flour, coffee, brown sugar, graham crackers, 4 ounces of the chocolate chips (noted in layer 2) in a mixing bowl and blend. Add the butter and Crisco and work into a crumbly mixture with your hands. Coat your baking dish(es) with cooking spray. Press the mixture into the pan and pat down. Bake in a 325 oven for 15 minutes. Remove and let cool about 15 minutes. Meanwhile go to layer two. LAYER TWO: In another mixing bowl, combine the remaining chocolate chips, sweetened condensed milk, eggs, vanilla, chocolate extract, and blend well. Add the walnuts and dates and mix in. Spread layer two over the crust of layer one. Return to the 325 oven for about 20-25 minutes. Remove , add finishing salt and let cool about 5 minutes then slice. When cool, remove from the pan.

From the kitchen of Charlotte Wilson. I found this recipe from Northpole.com and although I haven't tried it yet, I wanted to share it with everyone! NOTE: I added the ounce size for chips and prep time and the pan size as they weren't included. I think it's a good guess but everyone can help adjust.

Tips:

  • Choose the Right Graham Crackers: Use sturdy graham crackers that can hold up to the chocolate and marshmallow filling. Honey graham crackers are a popular choice for their sweet flavor.
  • Melt the Chocolate Slowly: To prevent the chocolate from burning or seizing up, melt it slowly over low heat or in a microwave-safe bowl at 50% power. Stir the chocolate frequently to ensure even melting.
  • Use High-Quality Marshmallows: Opt for fresh, soft marshmallows that will melt easily. Avoid using marshmallows that are old or stale.
  • Don't Overcook the Marshmallows: When melting the marshmallows, heat them just until they are melted and smooth, but not boiling. Overcooked marshmallows will become tough and chewy.
  • Chill the Bars Thoroughly: Allow the chocolate graham cracker bars to chill in the refrigerator for at least 2 hours before cutting and serving. This will help the bars set and firm up.

Conclusion:

In conclusion, Willy Wonka Chocolate Graham Cracker Bars are a delightful and nostalgic treat that is perfect for any occasion.
