BANANA BARS RECIPE

Banana Bars Recipe image

Number Of Ingredients 13

1 1/2 cups sugar
1 cup sour cream or plain yogurt
½ cup butter or margarine, softened
2 eggs
1 ½ cups mashed very ripe bananas (about 2)
2 tsp vanilla
2 cups flour
1 tsp salt
1 tsp baking soda
1/4 cup butter or margarine
2 cups powdered sugar
3 Tbs. milk
1 tsp vanilla

Steps:

  • Combine sugar, sour cream (or yogurt), butter, and eggs. Stir in mashed bananas and vanilla. Add flour, salt, and baking soda. Spread into a greased 10x15x1 (regular sized cookie sheet) and bake at 375 degrees for 18-20 minutes or until light brown. After it has cooled, whisk butter, powdered sugar, milk, and vanilla together for the glazed topping and spread over top.

Tips:

  • Use ripe bananas. The riper the bananas, the sweeter and more flavorful your banana bars will be.
  • Don't overmix the batter. Overmixing can result in tough, dense banana bars.
  • Bake the banana bars until a toothpick inserted into the center comes out clean. Overbaking can dry out the bars.
  • Let the banana bars cool completely before frosting them. This will help the frosting to set properly.
  • Store the banana bars in an airtight container at room temperature for up to 3 days. You can also freeze the bars for up to 2 months.

Conclusion:

These banana bars are a delicious and easy-to-make treat that are perfect for any occasion. They're also a great way to use up ripe bananas. With just a few simple ingredients, you can make a batch of banana bars that everyone will love. So next time you have some ripe bananas on hand, give this recipe a try. You won't be disappointed!
