Found this in a magazine when I was looking for something different with ingredients I had on hand. Wanted something other than pumpkin or a similar dessert for the holidays.

1 double pie crust (1 top, 1 bottom) purchased, or your favorite crust recipe.
4 c granny smith apples, cored and sliced and peeled (about 4)
2 c fresh or frozen cranberries
2 c sugar
1/4 c cornstarch
1/4 c orange juice
1/4 tsp lemon juice
1/2 tsp ground cinnamon
1/2 tsp apple pie spice
1/8 tsp ground nutmeg
2 Tbsp butter

Steps:

  • 1. Preheat oven to 425°F.
  • 2. In a large bowl, combine sugar, cornstarch, orange juice, lemon juice, cinnamon, apple pie spice and nutmeg. Add apples and cranberries; toss gently.
  • 3. Line a 9-in. pie plate with bottom pastry. Add filling; dot with butter. Roll the remaining pastry to fit top of pie. Cut vents in pastry, using a small apple cutter if desired. Place over filling; seal and flute the edges.
  • 4. Bake at 425° F for 10 minutes. Reduce heat to 350° F; bake 50 minutes longer or until crust is golden brown and filling is bubbly. Let pie cool on wire cooling rack completely before serving to let pie set.
  • 5. NOTE: No Apple pie spice?? Make your own by using 1/2 teaspoon cinnamon, 1/4 teaspoon nutmeg and 1/8 teaspoon cardamom to make 1 tsp of apple pie spice.

This pie was a bit too tart for my taste, but I still enjoyed it. The crust was flaky and the filling was thick and gooey. Overall, it was a good pie, but I would probably add more sugar next time.
