Fantastic Sweet and Sour Barbecue Meatballs image

These are from our church cookbook, and are incredibly delicious as a main dish served over hot, cooked rice. They also make wonderful sandwiches. The brown sugar amount for the sauce can be adjusted. Lately 2 and 1/4 c of brown sugar has become too sweet for me!

1 (15 ounce) can evaporated milk
3 lbs ground chuck
2 cups quick oats
2 eggs
1 cup chopped onion
2 teaspoons salt
1/2 teaspoon pepper
1/2 teaspoon garlic
2 teaspoons chili powder
3 cups ketchup
3 tablespoons liquid smoke
1/2 cup chopped onion
2 1/4 cups brown sugar
3/4 teaspoon garlic

Steps:

  • For meatballs, combine milk, ground chuck, oats, onion and seasonings.
  • Shape into balls and place in pan, one layer.
  • Combine sauce ingredients until dissolved and pour over meatballs.
  • Bake at 350 for 1 hour.
