Farmer's Breakfast Strata image

A heartier version of the old brunch stand-by. Prep time includes overnight refrigeration time.

1 lb sliced bacon, diced
2 c cooked ham, diced
1 small onion, peeled and chopped
1 c diced fresh cremini mushrooms
10 slice white bread, cut into 1-inch pieces
1 c cooked potato, diced into 1/2-inch cubes
3 c shredded cheddar cheese
8 eggs
3 c milk
1 Tbsp worcestershire sauce
1 tsp dry mustard
salt and pepper, to taste

Steps:

  • 1. In a skillet, over medium heat, cook bacon until crisp; add ham, onion and mushrooms. Cook and stir until onion is tender; drain.
  • 2. Coat a 13x9x2-inch baking dish with nonstick cooking spray. Layer half the bread cubes, potatoes and cheese. Top with all of the bacon mixture. Repeat layers of bread, potatoes and cheese.
  • 3. In a bowl, beat the eggs; add milk, Worcestershire sauce, mustard, salt and pepper. Pour over all. Cover and chill overnight. Remove from refrigerate 30 minutes before baking.
  • 4. Preheat oven to 325F.
  • 5. Bake, uncovered at 325 degrees for 65-70 minutes or until a knife inserted near the center comes out clean. Let cool 10 minutes and cut into 12-16 squares to serve.
