Frosted Cookies image

Cookie recipes are just about infinite, because almost anything can be shaped into a circle and baked: hence gluten-free, dairy-free, sugar-free "cookies." But the basic cookie contains three key ingredients: butter, flour and sugar. That combination has not been bettered, and it can be varied in so many ways that, really, it's the only recipe you need.

Time 20m

Number Of Ingredients 2

Three logs of cookie dough (see recipe)
Generous layer of frosting or icing (see recipe)

Steps:

  • Roll the dough by hand into three logs of equal size, chill and then slice off rounds to create cookies.
  • Bake until the edges are brown, about 10 minutes.
  • Cool for about 2 minutes on baking sheets before using a spatula to transfer the cookies to a rack to finish cooling.
  • When cookies are completely cooled, cover generously with frosting or icing.
