Growing up our family was consider "poor" although we never felt like we were. But there were some things that we just didn't have on our table like most people did. Number Of Ingredients 12

16 slices of day-old bread, torn into 1" pieces
2 c sugar
4 eggs
3 c milk
2 tsp ground cinnamon
1/2 tsp salt
2 Tbsp vanilla extract
1 can(s) (21-ozs) apple pie filling
2 c coarsely chopped pecans
1 c golden raisins
3/4 c butter or margarine, melted
whipped cream, optional

Steps:

  • 1. In a large bowl, combine bread and sugar; set aside. In another bowl, beat eggs, milk, cinnamon, salt and vanilla until foamy. Pour over bread mixture; mix well. Cover and refrigerate for 2 hours.
  • 2. Cut apples from pie filling in half; add apples and filling to bread mixture. Stir in pecans, raisins and butter. Pour into a greased 13"x9"x2" baking pan.
  • 3. Bake at 350 degrees for 45-50 minutes or until firm. Cut into squares. Serve warm or cold with whipped cream if desired.
