Categories     Cookies     Dessert     Bake     Molasses

Yield 3 dozen

Number Of Ingredients 9

½ cup shortening
1 ½ tablespoons sugar
1 ½ tablespoons baking powder
1 cup molasses
½ cup hot water
½ cup sour milk
½ teaspoon ginger
½ teaspoon cinnamon
About 6 cups flour (the original recipe just says "flour-just enough to roll the dough")

Steps:

  • Cream the shortening and sugar; add the dry ingredients alternately with the liquid ones and mix thoroughly. Turn out onto the board before all the flour has been added, and keep the dough as soft as possible. This recipe definitely needs to be learned through hands-on experience! Bake at 350 degrees for 8 - 10 minutes.

These cookies were a bit too sweet for my taste, but otherwise they were good. I'll probably try making them again with less sugar next time.

These cookies are amazing! I've tried many molasses cookie recipes before, but this one is by far the best. The cookies are soft and chewy, with the perfect amount of molasses flavor. I will definitely be making these again and again.

I made these cookies last night and they were delicious! The molasses flavor is perfect and they're not too sweet. I will definitely be making these again.

These cookies are so easy to make and they're always a hit with my family and friends. I love that they're not too sweet and have a bit of a chewy texture. I've been using this recipe for years and it's always a winner.
