Hot Water Pie Crust image

My Mom had a very, very old Hamilton Beach Mixer that came with a recipe book. In it was this pie crust recipe, I have tried the ice water crusts and found they aren't as easy to work with and don't come out as flaky.

Number Of Ingredients 4

1 1/2 c flour
1/2 c shortening
1 tsp salt
1/4 c boiling water

Steps:

  • 1. Mix together flour, shortening, salt with a fork, or pastry blender until mixture resembles the size of small peas
  • 2. Bring water to a boil and add to mixture. Stir to incorporate.
  • 3. Turn out onto lightly floured surface and roll into a 12" circle.
  • 4. Roll dough onto rolling pin and then roll out onto pie plate. Bake as directed.

This pie crust was a bit more difficult to work with than I expected, but it turned out great in the end. I would recommend using a food processor to make the dough, as it will make it much easier.
