Yield Serves 6

Number Of Ingredients 19

1 pound ground beef
2 tablespoons vegetable oil
1 onion, chopped
2 leeks (white and pale green parts only), chopped
1 red bell pepper, chopped
1 green bell pepper, chopped
4 green onions, chopped
2 garlic cloves, chopped
8 ounces lentils
2 28-ounce cans crushed tomatoes
1 1/2 cups water
2 tablespoons plus 1 teaspoon chili powder
2 1/2 teaspoons salt
2 teaspoons dried marjoram, crumbled
2 teaspoons dried oregano, crumbled
2 teaspoons dried basil, crumbled
1 teaspoon pepper
1 cup grated Parmesan
Sour Cream

Steps:

  • Heat heavy medium skillet over medium-high heat. Add ground beef and cook until beef is brown, crumbling with fork, about 5 minutes. Drain well. Heat oil in heavy 3-quart saucepan over medium-high. Add onion and next 5 ingredients. Sauté until onion is tender, about 8 minutes.
  • Add beef, lentils and next 8 ingredients to saucepan. Cover and simmer until lentils are tender, stirring occasionally, about 1 1/2 hours. Stir in Parmesan. Simmer, uncovered, until mixture is thick, about 15 minutes. Serve, passing sour cream separately.

This chili is a great way to use up leftover beef. It's also a great freezer meal.

This chili is a bit too spicy for my taste, but it's still very good. I'll just be sure to use less chili powder next time.

I'm not a big fan of chili, but this recipe changed my mind. It's so flavorful and satisfying.

This chili was a disappointment. The beef was dry and the lentils were mushy. I wouldn't recommend this recipe.

This chili was amazing! The beef and lentils were so tender, and the flavor was out of this world. I will definitely be making this again.

I thought this chili was just okay. The flavor was a bit bland for my taste, and the beef was a little tough. I think I'll try a different recipe next time.

This chili was easy to make and turned out delicious! I used ground turkey instead of beef, and it was still very flavorful. I also added a can of black beans, which gave it a nice texture.

I've made this chili several times now, and it's always a hit with my family. They love the combination of beef and lentils, and the flavor is always spot-on. I usually serve it with a side of cornbread or rice.

This lentil beef chili is a hearty and flavorful dish that's perfect for a cold winter day. The beef and lentils make it a good source of protein, and the vegetables add a nice crunch and sweetness. I especially liked the addition of the chili powder
