Oatmeal Chocolate Chip Bars image

This is a great recipe to have in your collection. All of the ingredients are common staples so you don't have to run out to the store to enjoy these chocolate chip-packed bars. --Peggy Fleming

Number Of Ingredients 11

1 cup shortening
1-1/2 cups packed brown sugar
2 large eggs
2 tablespoons molasses
2 teaspoons vanilla extract
3 cups quick-cooking oats
1 cup all-purpose flour
1 teaspoon baking soda
3/4 teaspoon salt
2 cups semisweet chocolate chips
3/4 cup chopped pecans

Steps:

  • In a large bowl, cream shortening and brown sugar until light and fluffy. Add eggs, one at a time, beating well after each addition. Beat in molasses and vanilla. Combine the oats, flour, baking soda and salt; gradually add to the creamed mixture until well combined. Stir in chocolate chips and pecans., Spread in a greased 13-in. x 9-in. baking pan. Bake at 350° for 28-32 minutes or until golden brown and edges pull away from sides of pan. Cool on a wire rack. Cut into bars.
