Oh So Yummy Apple Oatmeal Crisp image

Made this again today. To me so much tastier than an apple pie and sooo addicting. Awesome hot with a big dollop of ice cream. The smell is so amazing. NOTE: I always double this recipe, as it's just that good and still doesn't last very long. But we share with the family.

Number Of Ingredients 9

1 c old fashioned oats
1 c brown sugar
1 c all purpose flour
1/2 c butter, melted
3 c apples, peeled, cored and chopped
1/4 c granulated sugar
1 tsp ground cinnamon
1/2 tsp allspice, ground
1/2 tsp pumpkin pie spice

Steps:

  • 1. Preheat oven to 350ยบ Lightly grease an 8" square pan.
  • 2. In a big bowl, combine the oats, flour, brown sugar and melted butter. Mix till it becomes crumbly. (I do this step with clean hands, as it's just easier for me to get it to the consistency that it needs to be)
  • 3. Place half of the mixture into the bottom of the pan. (I spray the bottom lightly with Pam)
  • 4. Next, spread the chopped apples over the crumb mixture evenly.
  • 5. Sprinkle the sugar and cinnamon over the apples. On top of that, add the remaining crumb mixture.
  • 6. Bake for 40 to 45 minutes until golden brown.
  • 7. NOTE: as I chop my apples I have a bowl of cold water with a little lemon juice to keep the apples from browning on me since I have about 5 to 6 apples to chop up depending on the size. I've always used gala apples, just because i really like the taste and they definitely hold up well in this recipe. Not mushy at all.

This apple oatmeal crisp was a hit! The oats gave it a nice crunchy texture, and the apples were perfectly sweet and tart.
