Its easy to make, one bowl and no mess. This has been handed down from my grandmother and I would like to share it with you.

1 cup brown sugar
1 cup rolled oats
1 cup all-purpose flour
½ cup butter, melted
3 cups apples - peeled, cored and chopped
½ cup white sugar
2 teaspoons ground cinnamon

Steps:

  • Preheat oven to 350 degrees F (175 degrees C). Lightly grease an 8-inch square pan.
  • In a large bowl, combine brown sugar, oats, flour and butter. Mix until crumbly. Place half of crumb mixture in pan. Spread the apples evenly over crumb mixture. Sprinkle with sugar and cinnamon and top with remaining crumb mixture.
  • Bake in the preheated oven for 40 to 45 minutes, or until golden brown.

3 cups water
2 medium tart apples, chopped
1-1/2 cups old-fashioned oats
Dash salt
1/4 cup packed brown sugar
1/2 teaspoon ground cinnamon
1/2 teaspoon vanilla extract
1/4 cup chopped almonds
Optional: Maple syrup and fat-free milk

Steps:

  • In a large saucepan over medium heat, bring water to a boil. Add apples, oats and salt; cook and stir for 5 minutes. , Remove from the heat; stir in brown sugar, cinnamon and vanilla. Cover and let stand for 2 minutes. Sprinkle each serving with almonds. If desired, serve with syrup and milk.

4 large Granny Smith Apples
1/2 cup white sugar
1 teaspoon cinnamon
2 Tablespoons all-purpose flour
2 teaspoons lemon juice
1 cup all-purpose flour
1/2 cup old fashioned rolled oats
1/3 cup white sugar
1/3 cup light brown sugar
1/2 teaspoon cinnamon
1/4 teaspoon salt
1/2 cup butter, melted

Steps:

  • Preheat oven to 350*F
  • Peel and slice apples 1/4 inch thick and place in bowl. Discard apple peels.
  • Add to apples 1/2 cup white sugar, 1 teaspoon cinnamon, 2 Tablespoons flour and 2 teaspoons lemon juice. Mix well.
  • Place apples in a greased 8x8 casserole dish. Set aside.
  • In the same bowl as apple mixture was just in add 1 cup flour, 1/2 cup rolled oats 1/3 cup white sugar, 1/3 cup brown sugar, 1/2 teaspoon cinnamon & 1/4 teaspoon salt. Mix well ensuring no big clumps.
  • Melt butter and pour over oatmeal mixture. Mixture should be crumbly once mixed well.
  • Sprinkle oatmeal topping over apples and bake uncovered for 35 - 40 minutes or until apples are soft and topping is crispy.
  • Serve with salted caramel sauce, ice cream or whipped cream.
