The Polynesian Cultural Center has a fantastic luau. One of the best things on the menu is a taro roll (go to polynesia.com for their recipe). The rolls are divine, but I wanted to make a bread out of it for the breadmaker (less work!). I altered the proportions for the machine and dropped the food coloring. A sweet, light bread.

The bread was a bit dry, but the flavor was good. I think I would have added more liquid to the batter.

This bread was a bit too sweet for my taste, but it was still good. I think I would have preferred it with less sugar.

This poi bread was a delight! The texture was soft and fluffy, and the flavor was subtly sweet with a hint of tang. It was a perfect complement to my kalua pork and cabbage.
