This is a little "kicked-up" version of the all time favorite Chex Party Mix. Our niece gave us a gift of this one Christmas and I have made it every holiday since.

Provided by Donna Brown

Categories     Other Appetizers

Number Of Ingredients 6

6 c corn, rice or wheat chex cereal (i use corn and wheat)
2 c pecan halves
1/4 c butter
1/2 c brown sugar
1/3 c savannah cinnamon company praline mix (this comes in a 25 fl. oz. bottle that can be purchased directly online from the savannah cinnamon & cookie co. or some boutiques and food warehouses sell it)
1/2 tsp baking soda

Steps:

  • 1. Preheat oven to 250 degrees. Line parchment paper on a large cookie sheet. I use my 1/2 sheet cake pan. Pour onto parchment the pecans and cereal. Mix well with your hands. In a small saucepan, mix brown sugar, praline mix, and butter. Gently boil 2 minutes. Remove from heat and stir in baking soda until foamy. Pour over cereal/pecans and stir to coat well. Bake for 1 hour. (The recipe says to stir once during baking, but I have found to stir 2 or 3 times during baking process is best.) This recipe was taken directly from the praline bottle. This praline mix has many good recipes with it, i.e. Praline Cake, Whipped Topping, Southern Cappuccino, Cafe' Royale, Sweet Potatoes, etc. This bottle of mix lasts a long while. This is my 3rd Christmas on this particular bottle. NOTE: I do have the address, online site and 800 phone # if you would like it.

I'm allergic to nuts, so I made this praline party mix without the nuts. It was still delicious!

The praline party mix was a bit too salty for my taste. I think I'll use less pretzels next time.

The praline party mix was a bit too sweet for my taste. I think I'll use less sugar next time.

I added some chopped nuts to the praline party mix and it gave it a nice crunch. I also used dark chocolate chips instead of semi-sweet chocolate chips.

I'm not a big fan of pralines, but this party mix was surprisingly good. The sweet and salty flavors were well-balanced.
