Time 25m

Number Of Ingredients 4

72 pecan halves
24 unwrapped kraft caramels
1 tsp shortening
1 c semi sweet chocolate chips

Steps:

  • 1. Preheat oven to 300 degrees. Cover a large cookie sheet with aluminum foil, shiny side up. Spray with cooking spray to cover.
  • 2. Place 3 pecan halves in a Y shape on the foil until you have 24 Y shapes. Place 1 unwrapped caramel in the center of each Y.
  • 3. Bake in preheated oven just until caramel is melted, about 9-10 minutes. While caramels are melting in oven, heat shortening and chocolate chips in microwave in 30 second intervals, stirring to melt until just melted.
  • 4. Remove caramels and pecans from oven when caramel is just melted. Spoon chocolate over candies and refrigerate at least 30 minutes or until chocolate is set.

These turtles are delicious, but they're a bit too rich for me. I can only eat one or two at a time.

I followed the recipe exactly, but my turtles didn't turn out right. They were too hard and the chocolate didn't stick to the caramel.

These turtles were a lot of work to make. I don't think I'll be making them again.

I had a hard time finding the right kind of caramel for this recipe. I ended up using a caramel sauce, which worked okay, but I think it would have been better with a firmer caramel.

These turtles are a bit too sweet for my taste. I think I'll try using less sugar next time.

These turtles are a great way to use up leftover chocolate and caramel. I always have some leftover after I make other desserts, so it's nice to have a recipe that uses them up.
