This is one of my all-time favorite recipes. It is also a good recipe to start young children to help making.

Steps:
- 1. Slice the "store-bought" pickles and onions very thin.
- 2. Mix the sugar and vinegar with the original juice from the "store-bought" pickles to make a new brine.
- 3. Put the thinly-sliced pickles and onions back into the pickle jar.
- 4. Pour the new brine over the pickle and onion slices in the jar.
- 5. Let stand at least 24 hours. Turn or flip the jar as needed so as to keep the sugar mixed throughout.
