Salisbury-Style Meatballs with Caramelized Onions image

Naturally sweet varieties of onion, like Walla Wallas, plus prepared mushroom gravy put a new spin on frozen meatballs.

3 tablespoons butter
2 large sweet onions (such as Walla Walla), halved, thinly sliced (6 cups)
1 tablespoon brown sugar
1 (16 to 18-oz.) pkg. frozen cooked meatballs, thawed
1 (12-oz.) jar mushroom beef gravy

Steps:

  • Melt butter in 12-inch nonstick skillet over medium heat. Add onions and brown sugar; cook 15 to 20 minutes or until onions are golden brown and caramelized, stirring occasionally.
  • Add meatballs and gravy; stir gently to mix. Cover; cook 5 to 8 minutes or until meatballs are thoroughly heated, stirring occasionally.
