Time 1h20m

Number Of Ingredients 20

2 lb ground beef
1 clove garlic, minced
1 medium yellow onion, chopped
3 medium celery, diced
1/2 medium bell pepper, diced
1 pinch red pepper flakes
3 Tbsp chili powder
1 Tbsp onion powder
1 Tbsp garlic powder
1/2 tsp ground mustard
2 Tbsp Dijon mustard
1 Tbsp yellow mustard
2 Tbsp chili sauce
1/2 c catsup
1/4 c brown sugar, firmly packed
4 Tbsp Worcestershire sauce
1/2 can(s) tomato paste (6 oz can)
1 1/2 c stewed tomatoes with juice
1/4 c water
pinch salt and pepper

Steps:

  • 1. In a large skillet, over medium heat, begin browning ground beef. When half way through add garlic, diced veggies, and seasonings through the ground mustard. Saute until the beef is completely browned and veggies are opaque.
  • 2. Add the remaining ingredients breaking up the stewed tomatoes into smaller bite-sized pieces; combine well.
  • 3. Simmer the sloppy joe mixture for 30-40 minutes on low heat to marry flavors together. Or, transfer this mixture into a Crock Pot and slow cook on low for 1-2 hours.
  • 4. Serve on burger buns with pickle slices and American cheese slices.

Overall, I thought this recipe was just okay. It wasn't bad, but it wasn't anything special either.

The Sloppy Joes were a bit dry. I would recommend adding more sauce or using a juicier ground beef.

These Sloppy Joes were a bit too sweet for my taste. I would recommend using less brown sugar next time.

I've tried many Sloppy Joe recipes over the years, but this one is by far the best. The combination of ketchup, mustard, and brown sugar is perfect.

These Sloppy Joes were a hit with my family! The sauce was so flavorful and the ground beef was cooked to perfection. I will definitely be making this recipe again.
