Oil, for frying
2 pounds fresh or frozen shrimp, thawed and peeled and deveined
1 teaspoon black pepper
2 teaspoons garlic powder
Salt
Flour, for dredging and thickening
1 large onion, chopped
Water
4 cups cooked white rice

  • Lightly fry until shrimp turn pink and curl, about 2 minutes per side. Remove from skillet and drain. Saute onions in the same pan until they begin to soften. Add a couple tablespoons of flour and whisk well to make a roux. Season with a little more salt, pepper, and garlic powder. Whisk in water, 1/4 cup at a time until desired consistency is reached. Add shrimp and simmer in gravy for 10 minutes. Serve over white rice.

I'm not a big fan of shrimp, but I loved this recipe. The sauce was so good that I could have eaten it with just about anything.

This recipe is a great starting point, but it's definitely customizable. I like to add a little bit of cayenne pepper to the sauce for a little bit of heat.

I made a few changes to the recipe and it turned out even better than the original. I added some chopped bell peppers and onions to the sauce and it gave it a great flavor.

This recipe was just okay. The shrimp were a bit bland and the sauce was a little too sweet for my taste.

The shrimp were a bit overcooked, but the sauce was delicious. I'll try it again with a shorter cooking time.
