Aunt Ethel's Calico Beans image

This recipe was among my Mom's handwritten recipes. It is an old one and got a lot of use at family gatherings.

Number Of Ingredients 11

1 lb lean ground beef
1 c finely diced onion
1/2 lb bacon, cut in bite sized pieces
1 can(s) (15 ounces) pork and beans
1 can(s) (15 ounces) butter beans, drained
1 can(s) (15 ounces) kidney beans, drained
1 c brown sugar, firmly packed
1/2 c catsup
1 Tbsp apple cider vinegar
1 tsp dry mustard
1/2 tsp salt

Steps:

  • 1. Brown beef and onion in a large, deep skillet. Drain. Add bacon and cook until bacon is done but not crisp. Do not drain. Add remaining ingredients, mix well, and cook, uncovered, on low heat, at a simmer for about 30 minutes. Stir frequently. Serve hot.
