AMISH APPLE CAKE WITH HOT CARAMEL SAUCE

Amish Apple Cake With Hot Caramel Sauce image

This is one of our favorite cake recipes, originally published in Cooking from Quilt Country by Marcia Adams. I modified the caramel sauce a bit and increased the amount of the sauce since it is so wonderful! The cake keeps well and can be reheated briefly in the microwave. Extra caramel sauce is divine over ice cream!

Number Of Ingredients 15

1/2 cup pecans, chopped finely
2 1/2 cups cooking apples, chopped medium coarse (such as Granny Smith or Northern Sprys)

  • Add egg and beat until blended, then mix in the baking soda, salt, cinnamon, and nutmeg.
  • Add the flour and stir just until blended.

  • It can be reheated in the microwave.

Tips:

1. Choose the Right Apples: Select firm, tart apples like Granny Smith or Braeburn for a balanced flavor.

2. Prepare the Apples Properly: Peel and core the apples, then slice them thinly and evenly. This helps them cook evenly and absorb the cake batter.

3. Use Fresh Lemon Juice: A squeeze of fresh lemon juice enhances the flavor of the apples and keeps them from browning.

4. Don't Overmix the Batter: Overmixing can result in a tough cake. Gently stir the batter just until the ingredients are combined.

5. Use a 9x13 Inch Baking Pan: This size pan ensures that the cake bakes evenly and has the right thickness.

6. Bake the Cake Until a Toothpick Inserted in the Center Comes Out Clean: This indicates that the cake is done baking and prevents overcooking.

Conclusion:

With its moist texture, sweet and tangy flavor, and irresistible aroma, this classic American dessert is sure to please everyone at your table. Whether you're serving it for breakfast, brunch, or dessert, this apple cake is a delicious and versatile treat that's perfect for any occasion. So gather your ingredients, preheat your oven, and get ready to bake a mouthwatering apple cake that will surely become a family favorite.
