Number Of Ingredients 6

3 pounds chicken drumsticks
1/4 cup buttermilk
1 cup panko breadcrumbs
2 teaspoons McCormick's Grill Mates Montreal Chicken Seasoning
salt and pepper to taste
cooking oil spray

Steps:

  • Drizzle the chicken with the buttermilk. You can place the chicken in a bowl or in a Ziploc bag. Refrigerate for 30 minutes.
  • Spray the air fryer basket with cooking oil.
  • Add the panko breadcrumbs to a bowl with the chicken seasoning, salt, and pepper to taste. Stir.
  • Dredge the buttermilk chicken in the panko breadcrumbs mixture. Spray both sides of the chicken with cooking oil.
  • Place the chicken in the air fryer basket and cook for 10 minutes on 380 degrees.
  • Open the air fryer and flip the chicken. Cook the chicken for an additional 10-14 minutes until the chicken reaches an internal temperature of 165 degrees. Use your judgment for how long the chicken should cook. I like to ensure my chicken has a crispy exterior, in addition to reaching the appropriate internal temperature.
  • Tip: If you notice the chicken has formed a crunchy brown crust on the outside but needs more time to cook internally, lower the temperature on the air fryer to 350 degrees and continue cooking the chicken until it reaches the appropriate internal temperature.
  • Cool before serving.

Crispy Panko Chicken Thighs image

My wife and I sort of invented this recipe, we think. Chicken should have great flavor and the panko breadcrumbs and olive oil will give it a great crunch! Our kids love it (which is high praise in this house). Hope you enjoy as well!

Tips:

  • Choose the Right Chicken Legs: For the best results, select chicken legs that are relatively uniform in size. This will help them cook evenly in the air fryer.
  • Use Panko Breadcrumbs: Panko breadcrumbs are essential for achieving a crispy coating on the chicken legs. Regular breadcrumbs will not provide the same texture.
  • Season Generously: Don't be afraid to season the chicken legs liberally with salt, pepper, and your favorite herbs and spices. This will help create a flavorful dish.
  • Air Fry in Batches: If you are cooking a large batch of chicken legs, it is best to cook them in batches. This will prevent them from overcrowding the air fryer and ensure that they cook evenly.
  • Watch the Cooking Time: Air fryers can cook food quickly, so it is important to keep an eye on the chicken legs as they cook. Overcooking can result in dry, tough chicken.

Conclusion:

Air fryer panko chicken legs are a delicious and easy-to-make meal that is perfect for busy weeknights. They are crispy on the outside and juicy on the inside, and they can be seasoned to your liking. Serve them with your favorite dipping sauce for a complete meal.
