AMISH HAM SALAD
When it comes to ham salad this is top of the list for me....I love this version and ever since I tried some at a local Amish store I had to learn how to make it. It is a simple recipe and can be seasoned up if you want. I have altered a recipe I found in an Amish newspaper and my main addition is the horsey sauce, which I love....

Steps:
- 1. Shredding the baby swiss cheese, chop the ham and rinse/drain the sauerkraut really well. I usually squeeze the kraut with my hands to get the most liquid out as possible.
- 2. Add all your ingredients in a bowl and stir together till well combined.
- 3. This is the horsey sauce that I use. It most certainly has a bite to it.
- 4. Salad is ready
- 5. Sammie with Amish Ham Salad
- 6. I used my Grammie's Homemade Mayonnaise recipe for this and it paired well with the ham and swiss. https://www.justapinch.com/recipes/sauce-spread/dressing/homemade-mayonnaise.html?p=1

Tips:
- Use high-quality ingredients: Fresh, high-quality ingredients will make a big difference in the flavor of your ham salad. Look for ham that is well-marbled and free of any excess fat or gristle. Use fresh, crisp vegetables and herbs, and avoid using any canned or frozen ingredients if possible.
- Choose the right type of ham: There are many different types of ham available, so choose one that you enjoy the flavor of. For a classic ham salad, a mild-flavored ham like a boneless, skinless ham steak or a deli ham works well. If you prefer a more flavorful ham salad, you could use a smoked ham or a country ham.
- Chop the ham and vegetables evenly: This will help to ensure that the ham salad has a consistent texture and that the flavors are evenly distributed. If you are using a food processor to chop the ham and vegetables, be sure to pulse it only until the ingredients are finely chopped and not pureed.
- Add your favorite mix-ins: There are many different ingredients that you can add to your ham salad to customize it to your taste. Some popular additions include diced celery, red onion, hard-boiled eggs, pickles, and chopped parsley. You could also add a bit of Dijon mustard, mayonnaise, or sour cream for extra flavor.
- Chill the ham salad before serving: This will help to firm up the ham salad and make it easier to spread. Chill the ham salad for at least 30 minutes before serving, or overnight for the best flavor.
